YLC Building Project

In 2007, a committee of YLC members embarked on a project meant to leave a permanent legacy for the YLC in our community - the renovation of a blighted property in Central City. The renovated space is the permanent home of the YLC's staff and serves as a gathering place for YLC activities. Construction and enhancement is ongoing.

Project Purpose

YLC embarked on this project to renovate a blighted property in an ever-emerging, but struggling area of New Orleans called Central City. Still a work in progess, the building is now the central gathering ground for YLC members to hold project meetings, social gathering, community service activities and the like. It also provides office space for the YLC's four-person staff.

Property Information

The property is 3,600 square feet over two floors. The all-brick building was a factory in the early 1900's. The Central City neighborhood where it is located has been, and is still filled with blighted properties. However, over the last several years, there has been positive momentum due to the amount of renovation of older properties for new purposes - mainly driven by nonprofits. The YLC's project is intended to help continue this momentum. It is located on the main boulevard of the neighborhood just across from the popular eatery, Café Reconcile and next to Ashe Cultural Center.
