Leader: Will Hales, whales@iberiabank.com. Updates... First Responders Project Secures Federal Funds for New Orleans EMS
Since Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans' Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services have been pushed far beyond their limits, but continue to deliver the critical services we expect and need from such agencies. The NOFD responds to calls for assistance despite occupying well over a dozen engine houses in need of serious repair, with apparatus staffed below the nationally mandated minimums, and with equipment that is outdated. New Orleans EMS cares for the sick and injured of the city while operating from two FEMA trailers beneath the Crescent City Connection, with no maintenance support for its overworked fleet of ambulances, and no recognition for the Paramedics staffing those units on a daily basis. The YLC First Responders Project seeks to provide those that serve us with the advocacy and resources their role deserves. We will accomplish this by supporting and growing education and outreach programs. We will work with our government and business leaders to secure for these departments the resources they need to protect our city. We will remind the public that our First Responders come to our aid when we need them most, and that they in turn deserve our thanks and support. First Responders Project is currently seeking a co-Project Leader to help implement and plan for the project. If you are interested or for more information, please contact Will Hales at whales@iberiabank.com. |
